For maintaining and managing its roads at par with global standards, Tamil Nadu government is to form Tamil Nadu State Highways Authority (TNSHA) on the lines of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The formation of the Authority will be followed by entrusting major State Highways to the TNSHA, said the State Finance Minister O Panneerselvam while presenting the State Budget.

Jharkhand’s remote areas to get roads
Keeping in mind the difficult terrain and dominance of rebels in Jharkhand, the government has decided to provide roads to even those villages which have a population of more than 100, said Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh on March 23. He promised road connectivity to even the remotest village in Jharkhand, taking the initial steps to usher development in these parts of the country.

Home Minister visits Kutch, promises concrete roads
Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on March 25 visited a marshy region, near the disputed Sir Creek, in Kutch and announced that approval for building a concrete road in the region would be given in a weekĂâs time. Lauding the role of BSF personnel in guarding this difficult terrain, which is prone to infiltration from Pakistan, Shinde assured them that approval for building a concrete road right upto the bank of Harami Nala would be granted in a weekĂâs time.

TN takes over highway maintenance work from NHAI
Bombarded with people's complaints over pathetic condition of roads the Tamil Nadu government has told National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) that it would take over the road restoration work. But, it is not clear as to who will bear the cost, estimated at 82.33 crore. It is said work on bypass roads carried out by NHAI was moving at a snail's pace. With this, the State government, for the first time, has taken over maintenance and restoration of 11 stretches, extending to 81.27 km.

Finance Min tells RBI to tag road loans as secured
The Union Finance Ministry has urged the Reserve Bank of India to consider a change in its stance that treats loans to road projects as unsecured. If the RBI sheds its reluctance to treat highway sector lending as secured loans, credit flows to the fund-starved sector could grow by at least 20 per cent-25 per cent, officials said.

TN gets World Bank’s aid for road project
For the second phase of Tamil Nadu Road Sector Project, the State government has obtained approval of the World Bank and the Central government, said Finance Minister O Panneerselvam, while presenting the State budget for 2013-14 in Chennai on March 21. Under this project, a total of 1,678 km of roads will be strengthened and widened.

Work on the much delayed Cuttack-Chandbali State highway expansion project in Odisha is all set to take off. The road project has been funded by the World Bank. 92 road projects under execution in J&K’s Baderwah
