Rs 13 cr to construct concrete roads in Bhubaneswar
For constructing concrete roads in its wards, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed to spend Rs 13 crore in the ensuing fiscal. BMC has lately focused on repair and construction of the road network under it. It has around 1,400 km of internal and a few major roads under it. Most of the roads in the city are either being constructed or repaired.
Regulator for road sector a boon, say experts
Experts say that the Budget announcement about the setting up of a regulator for roads is a blessing in disguise for India's highways sector. They say that the dispute-heavy sector can now look forward to a third party to resolve them, in the form of a regulator.
Monitoring of road widening work sought in Gurgaon
The quality of construction work on dividers and footpaths on the Sector 53-56 road needs stricter monitoring, said residents. The HUDA engineering wing is constructing a footpath on both sides of the road. From the beginning of the work at site the residents of the adjoining sectors have claimed that the quality of the work is going unmonitored.
Sreedharan suggests concrete roads for cities
Concrete roads are the only salvation for potholed roads in Kerala, a state annually visited by two full-fledged monsoons, says E. Sreedharan, Member, State Planning Board, and principal adviser to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, sees it. Bitumen roads develop potholes primarily due to water seepage and lack of proper sewerage.
Expansion of inter-village roads begins in Manipur
In Manipur, expansion of inter-village roads (IVRs) and district roads passing through Andro Assembly Constituency has kick-started from March 2 under the supervision local MLA Th Shyamkumar. It is said that all IVRs would be expanded up to 20 feet and district roads passing through the Assembly segment up to 60 feet. The road expansion has been taken up in view of the population growth.
Govt okays financial closure for Jaipur Ring Road project
The Rajasthan government has given approval to financial closure for the long pending ring road project in Jaipur and is expected to begin soon. Once the letter is issued by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), the contract company Sanjos Supreme will have to complete work in 21 months. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) after examining the financial closure critically provided by the company submitted it to the State government for approval.
Roads in rural Delhi areas will be developed: CM
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on March 2 stated on March 2 that the government has decided to improve all major road networks in rural areas including those in villages before the monsoon season. Dikshit said this after launching a road improvement project in Bawana area of North-West Delhi.
1,605 km of roads built under NHDP till Dec: Survey
About 1,605 km of roads were constructed till the end of December 2012 under various phases of the National Highways Development Project (NHDP), the Economic Survey said recently. While the total length estimates to be at 5.94 km per day in nine months, projects for another 878 km to be constructed in the remaining three months of financial year 2012-13 have been awarded, says the survey.
