Pedder Road flyover project in Mumbai face hurdles
The Pedder Road flyover project in Mumbai has hit another stumbling block. Tenders for the much-delayed project have already been floated by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) but other government agencies have expressed reservations.
Tardy work on national highway 66 in Udupi blamed
Pointing out that there had been no progress in the work on NH 66 in Udupi district of Karnataka, K Raghupati Bhat, MLA, on January 26 accused Udupi-Chikmagalur MP K Jayaprakash Hegde of failing to expedite work on the widening of the National Highway 66. Bhat told the media in Mangalore that there had been no progress in the work on NH 66 ever since Hegde became an MP.
Chennai’s Thiruvanmiyur to get four-lane flyover
In Chennai, work to construct a 1.3 km-long flyover crossing three junctions in Thiruvanmiyur is likely to commence by September. According to the proposal, the flyover will cross the Jayanthi-Theyagaraja theatres junction, the one after the Marundeeswarar temple and the RTO office.

Punjab appoints consultant for Nawanshahr road project
The Public Works Department (PWD) of Punjab has appointed Consulting Engineering Services (CES), New Delhi to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of proposed four-laning of 82 km Ropar-Nawanshahr-Phagwara, which will submit its report in two months to the department.

Work on four-laning on the busiest Jalandhar-Pathankot national highway 1 has once again missed its deadline. Originally worth Rs 576 crore, the project Ăâ which has missed several deadlines in nearly five years Ăâ has seen an increase in construction cost by 30 per cent (Rs 750 crore).
J&K govt cracks whip on road building firms for delays
Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Roads and Buildings Abdul Majid Wani on January 24 has cracked whip on construction agencies in the state. The Minister said that cost overruns due to undue and unnecessary delays in works shall have to be their exclusive liability.
Punjab to build 14 more ROBs/RUBs at 318 cr
To improve road connectivity in Punjab through building railways over/under bridges, the State government has set aside Rs 318 crore. The government has planned to build a total of 14 ROBs and RUBs with the sum. Work on 9 under construction ROBs/RUBs are already set to be completed and they would be dedicated to the people of Punjab in next two months.
TN to bring new system to maintain roads, highways
In Tamil Nadu, the Jayalalithaa-led government on January 23 announced the introduction of a new performance-based maintenance contract system for maintaining the roads and highways in the state. The news system is considered as a major fillip to road infrastructure in the state.
