Since builders are not coming forward due to fund crunch in the present economic environment, it is not possible to construct 20 km of roads in a day, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister CP Joshi said on January 24. Joshi said that the government's past experience says it can achieve this target only when it is in a position to award 7,000 km per year for three consecutive years.

Centre okays two key road projects for Arunachal
The Union government on January 21 approved the construction of two roads in Arunachal Pradesh - Bameng to Lada (55 kms) and Miao to Vijaynagar (157 kms) - in principle under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
NHAI formulating policy for early exit of developers
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing a new policy that would facilitate and allow the construction companies to exit as soon as the road project is commissioned. The NHAI's move follows highway construction industry's pressing demand to allow them to disinvest from the highway projects when those are commissioned.
TN to develop road networks along Chennai ORR

In Pune, a 2-km stretch of the Pune-Mumbai highway from Phugewadi to Dapodi will soon be concretised along all eight lanes. The stretch, which falls in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits, was widened earlier, but its concretisation work has not been completed. The PCMC has already concretised the 11-km highway stretch from Phugewadi to Nigdi.
