The Uttar Pradesh government on February 22 announced that Agra, the Taj city, would be the first ‘solar city’ of the country. Minister of State for Alternative Energy Vijay Mishra said that a Detailed Project Report(DPR) has been sent by the Agra authorities for making the city as the first Solar city of the country.

In order to release capital for lending to used construction equipment and other purposes, Srei Equipment Finance plans to securitise Rs 800-900 crore of its assets during the current quarter, reports suggest. Ten major firms race to build 3,300-km freight corridor
For the 3,300-km Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) project, Indian and global construction companies are vying for around Rs 12,000 crore worth of civil works for two stretches. Among these are not only the Tatas, Essar and IVRCL Infrastructures Projects Ltd, but also Chinese, Russian and Spanish firms. The eastern corridor of the DFC is from Ludhiana to Dankuni (West Bengal). The western one is from Dadri, close to Delhi, till Navi Mumbai.

Reports suggest that the government plans to double the offer to landowners who sell land for private projects. AccÂording to a provision, which may be included in the revised land bill, land owners may be offered 40 per cent (instead of the earlier 20 percent) of deveÂloped land (in proportion to what they lost and at a price equal to the cost of acquisition and development). This might be doubled in the version to be presented in Parliament.
