Centre wants to curb oil imports, will encourage use of alternate fuels
The country is planning to reduce its dependence on oil imports and turn to use of alternate fuels. Fuels like ethanol are already being utilised by a few players in the Indian transportation sector.
Speaking at a recent conference hosted by Nomura in Singapore, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the government was “trying its level best” to move towards the time when India will completely stop importing petroleum products.
Though the minister did commit any specific deadlines for this proposed switchover, Gadkari cited the example of the a few biomass projects coming up across the country and the fact that auto-rickshaws in New Delhi had switched over to LNG.
