The congested Bemina road in Srinagar awaits widening, despite inconvenience being faced by thousands of commuters, who everyday bear traffic snarls on the motorway. According to residents, the vital link spanning over 2-km – between Bemina Degree college and Bemina highway squares, has been neglected by successive regimes. This is despite the fact that the road is a key link to around 50 government offices visited by thousands everyday in the area.
The area commuters say that the officials concerned,, legislators and ministers have been approached over the past decade for road widening but except hoax assurances they have done nothing. The locals complained of facing tough time in summers particularly during morning and evening hours as they get trapped in traffic jam due to narrowness of the road stretch.
It takes more than half an hour to cross the 2- kilometer road though the drive wouldnÂ’t take more than five minutes if the connectivity was decent, the area residents said.
