Danfoss Industries has partnered with the Kolkata Metro Rail Corp. (KMRC) and Chennai Metro Rail Ltd, (CMRL) to offer cutting-edge drive solutions of varying capacities, to enhance safety, comfort, energy efficiency, sustainability, and reliability of their networks.

The unique drives Danfoss will not only ensure safety and protection of the equipment but also help the two metro rail networks meet their sustainability goals by reducing their overall carbon emissions and energy footprint, a company release said.

At both the KMRC and CMRL projects, the installation of Danfoss variable frequency drives has contributed to 15-25 per cent energy savings across various applications.

“In a rapidly urbanising world, concerns of energy efficiency and carbon emissions have become paramount. In this regard, making urban mobility sustainable and climate-friendly is a critical element in paving the way for sustainable urbanisation in India. Danfoss’ domain expertise in heating, ventilation and air conditioning solutions (HVAC) for metro applications comes from years of experience having worked closely with metro projects both in the domestic and global markets,” remarked Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss Industries Pvt. Ltd., India Region.

The first Danfoss drives solutions package of 400+ IP55 drives for CMRL was commissioned in 2013 as part of Phase-I of the project, wherein 100 per cent of all drive requirements for the project were fulfilled by the company. Since then, Danfoss India has provided 500+ units of variable speed drive solutions to CMRL.

During the course of the Danfoss project with KMRC that commenced in 2019, over 80+ units of variable speed drives solutions have been delivered to date. These drive solutions are integral to various applications such as tunnel ventilation fans, trackway exhaust fans, chillers, pumps, air handling units, etc., among several others.

“Today, Danfoss commands a 90%+ market share across various metro projects in India, due to our strong value propositions,” pointed out Palanisamy Lakshman, Head Danfoss Drives Sales, Marketing & Service.

Danfoss’ top technology, the IP 55 drives, are highly customisable for tunnel ventilation applications typically required in metro applications. The IP 55 Drives provide the best-in-class energy performance index for metro stations and user-friendliness, while also providing optimal temperature control, comfort and safety. Further, these are also suited to the specific needs of the climactic and harsh environment conditions across India, particularly with regards to the wide variations in ambient temperatures and installation locations.
