Despite the Visakhapatnam Port witnessing a three-fold jump in container cargo during the last five years, the project in the port to double the capacity of the container terminal is yet to take off as the Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) is yet to take a decision on the issue.
The VPT board is expected to meet on December 27 to decide on the fate of the project.
Though nearly eight months have passed since the cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) gave its nod for the project, VPT and Visakha Container Terminal (VCTPL) are yet to agree on a gross revenue share. The container terminal expansion project is to be implemented on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis for a 30-year period.
