Flaw in Thelekkad road construction led to mishap: NATPAC

The National Transport Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) has stated that unscientific construction of the road at Thelekkad in Tamil Nadu led to the killing of 14 persons in a road accident on September 7. NATPAC team visited the accident sport on September 9. The team spoke to the local people to collect the details about the accident and inspected the technical details of road construction.

The sport where the accident occurred is situated on the Pattikkad-Melkulangara route. NATPAC, which is undertaking research and consultancy works in the fields of traffic engineering and transportation planning, conducted a detailed inspection of the spot. The team said that unscientific construction of the road, reckless driving on the part of the bus driver, overload caused the raod mishap.

At the time of construction, a few serious faults were taken place and they played a key role in the accident, the team said. The road has not been designed scientifically and it has not followed the road safety measures, the team members stated.
