In Bangalore, to tackle the traffic congestion on one of the major roads in Banasawadi, East Bengaluru, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) is mulling over the construction of flyovers parallel to the existing one. The Corporation is also planning to provide one extra lane to the flyover loop which connects Byappanahalli to the Banasawadi flyover.
Fed up of the peak hour bumper-to-bumper traffic on the main Banasawadi road, Maruti Sevanagar corporator R. Rajendran and some residents of the area put their heads together and contemplated the possibility of an additional lane for the flyover. Following detailed discussions on the pros and cons of the project, Rajendran was convinced that the additional lane for the flyover would not hamper the traffic flow and would help lessen the congestion on the busy road.
The defence authorities were reluctant to part with their land when the flyover was constructed and hence the flyover is very narrow and causes traffic congestion now.
An official concerned in BBMP said that talks were on with the defence authorities. Private property owners have agreed for the Transfer of Development Rights. Once the land is acquired, the flow of traffic will be made 90 per cent signal free. An underpass will also be constructed, said the official.
