In Goa’s Margao, the daily congestion on the National highway-17 from Nuvem junction to the old market circle will be a thing of the past. The State government is planning to widen the stretch of the NH-17 between these two points. The State PWD sources say that a land acquisition proposal for widening the stretch from Nuvem church to Ambajim junction has been framed.

An NOC from the town and country planning department is now awaited. The widening is expected to clear the bottlenecks and congestions at Nuvem church, eastern bypass junction at Nuvem, proposed South Goa district collectorate, Margao bus stand and old market circle.

Sources said that the government has also formulated plans to tackle the traffic congestion in Margao municipal area at locations like Fatorda stadium junction and Gogol junction.

In this regard, land acquisition has been awarded at stadium junction, i.e. road leading from Arlem to Ravindra Bhavan junction. The money has already been deposited with the economic development corporation (EDC).
