The environment ministry has eased the clearance process for coal mines planning to increase production from existing mine lease area. The ministry has decided to extend the exemption from holding public hearings for the expansion of coal mining projects with annual production capacity of up to 8 million tonnes. With this decision, coal mining projects with a production capacity of 8 million tonnes per year can increase production by up to 50 per cent.
