To track progress of expressway projects, the Union government is to set up a monitoring committee. The move follows when the government found lacking in multiple aspects of three road projects, which were put on fast track by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The Prime Minister’s Office had taken note of this and decided to set up the panel.
The committee will comprise senior officials from the highways ministry, department of expenditure and the Planning Commission to track the Authority’s progress,
Earlier this month, the government’s projects review reveals that the NHAI is yet to resolve technical and other parameters in the Supreme Court-mandated Eastern Peripheral Expressway and the Delhi-Meerut and Mumbai Vadodara expressways. The government has now decided to form the monitoring committee.
