The master plan and detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Vizhinjam container terminal and international port project in Kerala was released by the state Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Chandy said according to the terms of reference given, an exhaustive study covering all seasons of the year has been done.
He also informed that the State Pollution Control Board would conduct a public hearing on June 29 based on the environmental impact assessment report already submitted to it.
Following the hearing, the state government would seek clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests for the project and a decision on this could be forthcoming from 105 days of submission of application, Chandy said.
Ports Minister K Babu said the Vizhinjam International Seaport (VISL), would wait till the environmental clearance before floating tenders for a port operator. There was no change in the plan to have the project executed according to the “landlord model,” he said.
The first stage of the project is expected to cost around Rs 4,010 crore, out of which, VISL would spend Rs 3,040 crore on the creation of the basic infrastructure of the port.
