As two road under bridges (RuBs) are expected to come up at East Anandbagh and Vajpai Nagar in Hyderabad, traffic woes of residents of Malkajgiri and surrounding areas may end soon.
The roads and buildings (R&B) department and South Central Railway (SCR) will construct RuBs at East Anandbagh and Vajpai Nagar (Neredmet).
For the project, tenders have been floated recently while the selection of the contractor would be completed by November. The residents of Malkajgiri, Safilguda, Neredmet and surrounding colonies have been demanding bridges at railway crossings for over two decades due to increase in traffic flow, especially during peak hours.
The 30-metre RuBs at East Anandbagh and Vajpai Nagar would have four lanes (two lanes in each direction) and would be taken up at a cost of Rs 27 crore and Rs 32.50 crore respectively. This includes service roads on both sides in addition to pedestrian facilities.
These roads, which have level crossings, have become important link roads to go to Secunderabad. Malkajgiri MLA Akula Rajender had raised the issue of bridges in the assembly and also during district review committee meetings of Ranga Reddy on several occasions.
The MLA also met chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy a couple of months ago for the same. As the rail traffic also increased, causing frequent closure of gates at two level crossings and blocking of vehicular traffic, the SCR has agreed to bear 50 per cent of the cost for the construction of bridges.
