The prime minister said India’s democratic foundations, pro-investment policies and streamlined business environment have positioned the country as a trusted global destination for technology and manufacturing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on India’s technology leaders to seize emerging opportunities in the world’s digital and manufacturing sectors, positioning the country as a trusted global hub for innovation and scale.
“Wherever there are bottlenecks in mobile, telecom, electronics and the technology ecosystem, India has the opportunity to provide solutions to the world,” he said at the inaugural session of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Citing semiconductors as a key example, Modi noted that global manufacturing had long been concentrated in a handful of countries.
“Today, India has taken an important step in this direction and is working on developing ten semiconductor units,” he said.
The prime minister added that global majors are actively seeking reliable partners who can offer both scale and trust in electronics and telecom equipment manufacturing.
“Can Indian companies not become reliable global suppliers and design partners?” he asked, addressing CEOs of leading Indian telecom firms and their suppliers.
He emphasised the need to ramp up domestic production of critical components such as chipsets, batteries, displays and sensors used in mobile phone manufacturing.
“The world is generating more data than ever before. Therefore, questions of storage, security and sovereignty will become increasingly important. India can emerge as a global data hub by investing in data centres and cloud infrastructure.”
Best Time to Make in India
Earlier in his address, Modi recalled how his push for self-reliance through the Make in India programme was once met with scepticism.
“The country that once struggled to implement 2G technology has now reached 5G in nearly all districts,” he said.
He highlighted the recent launch of India’s indigenous 4G stack as a milestone in digital self-reliance.
“Today, we have made it to the list of five countries with this capability. With indigenous 4G and 5G stacks, we will not only ensure seamless connectivity but also provide citizens with fast internet and reliable services.”
Modi said India’s democratic setup, investor-friendly policies and ease of doing business have made it a preferred destination for global investment.
“This is further corroborated by India’s success in rolling out digital public infrastructure.”
He urged global stakeholders to act now.
“This is the best time to invest, innovate and make in India. From manufacturing to semiconductors, mobile phones to electronics and startups, there is opportunity and energy in every field.”
Noting the role of startups and innovators, he welcomed IMC 2025’s initiative to connect 500 homegrown startups with global investors and mentors.
