IndiaÂ’s first solar bicycle track corridor will run on both sides of a 12 km stretch road from Mukarba Chowk to Wazirabad on DelhiÂ’s Outer Ring Road by March 2019. The execution of the project will be done by the Public Works Department (PWD) and is estimated to generate 6 MW of clean electricity, once the corridor is fully operational. The project will not only curb pollution in the city but will also generate electricity that will later be used for powering streetlights and other infrastructure. The surplus will then be supplied to the grid. The cost of the project is estimated to be recovered in five years by selling the unused electricity.
