India had a steel stock of 1.824 million tonne after real consumption of 73.33 million toone by the end of 2012-13, said the Union Minister of Steel Beni Prasad Verma recently. By the end of last June this year, the country had a steel stock of 1.626 million tonne, he added.
In 2010-11, India consumed 66.42 million tonne of steel, in 2011-12, it consumed 71.02 million tonne and during April-June this year, India consumed 17.80 million tonne, he added.
He stated that there is no specific information to establish whether the domestic steel industries have been affected adversely by import of steel, in the recent years.
