To reduce congestion and provide better connectivity, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has expedited the process to start the construction work of two high-level bridges in the city. These high-level bridges will be constructed between Gopalpura to Mansarovar and Swej Farm to Sodala. A senior official said that the demarcation work near Swej Farm has been started by the authority at zone level, while, a consultant has been appointed to prepare the design for Gopalpura.
He added that tor Swej Farm it has been proposed that it will be of four lanes, while the other will have six lanes. Officials claimed, once the proposed bridge connecting Swej Farm and Sodala is constructed, the distance for commuters will reduce drastically.
At present the commuters from Swej Farm to Sodala have to travel at least 5 kilometres. After construction the distance will be reduced to just half, which means it will then be covered in only 2.5 kms. Moreover, there are more than 100 colonies near Mahesh Nagar, so the residents will not have to face congestion once the bridge is built between Swej Farm and Sodala.
On the other hand, commuters travelling from Mansarovar to Gopalpura will also be relieved as during rainy season water clogging has been a major problem and possibilities of accidents are also high in the area. Kishore Agarwal, a local resident said that Mansarovar is the largest colony of the city and the population pressure in the area is high due to schools, hospitals etc.
It is necessary to widen the bridge between Mansarovar and Gopalpura as traffic snarl is high during the peak hours. Even the narrow bridge in the area is very risky. Sources in the department said, the high-level bridge project near Gopalpura was proposed three years ago. However, due to lackadaisical approach of the authorities the project was unattended and the cost increased.
