Jalandhar-Amritsar highway to be widened at Rs 524 cr

For widening of Jalandhar-Amritsar section of National Highway in Punjab, the Union government on November 13 approved Rs 523.85 crore. The highway project will be taken up under the flagship road building programme, National Highways Development Project (NHDP) of the Union government.

The highway will widened into six-lane under the NHDP Phase II on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis. The cost of the project includes the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities. The total length of the road will be about 20 km.

The highway project will reduce the time and cost of travel for traffic, particularly heavy traffic, plying between Jalandhar and Amritsar section of National Highway-1 in Punjab.
