Over 1,000 farmers have written a letter to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to stop funding for the construction of the bullet train project as the acquirement of land by overlooking the prescribed guidelines. In response to the letter, JICA has asked the government to first regularise and address the issues of the farmers whose lands are being acquired. Though the government has formed a special committee to look into this matter, the holding back of funds is most likely to delay the 2022 target for the completion of the project.
