Residents of Kanpur are facing hardships due to the dilapidated condition of roads in the city. Especially dug up roads are bothering them a lot. One of the many unlevelled and the potholed stretches in the city is Kalpi road between Zarib Chowki and Fazalganj. The entire stretch of nearly 1.5 km is unlevelled ever since it was dug up for laying of sewage pipes under JNNURM scheme.

On this road, several accidents have been reported in the past but the authorities concerned are yet to take any action. The pathetic state of the roads also forces commuters to move at a snail’s pace, resulting in traffic jams. Chowki and Fazalganj being strategic points witness heavy traffic rush throughout the day.

The movement of traffic also makes dust from the dug up roads rise, polluting the environment and lowering visibility.

In Gumti and Darshanpurwa area, the problem of dust is particularly bad for the residents. Not only the cars parked outside but even household items get covered in a layer of dust everyday. Several residents also complained of respiratory ailments due to the dusty conditions.
