For a proposed port at Vizhinjam in Kerala, the State government is awaiting the Central government’s green signal, said the State Ports and Fisheries Minister K Babu. Near the famed tourist sport Kovalam, the Vizhinjam port has been planned by the State government.

The Minister said that the proposed Vizhinjam port’s environment impact assessment study report was submitted to the Union Environment and Forests Ministry last week.

And the Central ministry is to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to the proposed project within 105 days, the Minister added. First phase of the port project has been estimated to cost at Rs 4,010 crore ($600 million).
