In Coimbatore city, a newly constructed underground drainage chamber on Sathyamangalam Road has been caved-in forcing the traffic police to barricade the caved-in portion for safety and to keep off the traffic from plying on it. Complaints are pouring in that the contractor executing the project on behalf of the Coimbatore Corporation is at fault.
The chamber has not yet been put to use by the Corporation. If this is the condition of the chamber before it is put to use, what could be the strength when sewage starts flowing through it, the general public ask.
The Coimbatore Corporation has taken up the underground drainage work as part of the Package I and the contractor completed the work in last April. General public are demanding the Corporation to address the issue and recruit more engineers to supervise and ensure quality construction.
