With the state and the Centre asking local governing bodies to generate their own revenue and develop infrastructure without depending on government aid, both Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pune Metropolitan Development Authority (PMRDA) are gearing up to attract private players to invest in the city and the region. Both bodies are work-¡ing out a comprehensive eco-¡nomic development plan for the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) and the city. For starters, PMRDA will set up a separate wing to attract foreign direct investment. PMRDA chief executive officer Mahesh Zagade said, -´The PMRDA will have a separate wing to attract FDI which will facilitate economic activities in the PMR. We want to develop Pune region as a major international investment destination.´ A cash-strapped PMC is also all for the PPP model.
