Minister for 70-metre roads in Kerala

Minister for 70-metre roads in Kerala

Keeping in view of the population density in Kerala, roads in the state should be extended to 70 metre width, said the State Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Minister was speaking at the plenary session of ‘Perspective-a seminar on ‘Innovative Initiatives for Road Development in Kerala,’ organised by the Public Works Department and Kesari Memorial Journalists’ Trust in the city on November 6.

Aryadan said that it will be literally impossible to acquire land in future as the population density is increasing in the state. The roads existing in the state were more than 15 years old and proper planning of roads was necessary for future development, he added.

The Minister said that those who are opposing the extension of roads’ width in the state lack vision for future development. In the current scenario, even the 45-metre width for roads is inadequate. ‘In my opinion, it should be 60 or 70 metres,’ the Minister stated.
