Union Environment and Forest Minister Prakash Javadekar said his ministry was keen to hand over the forest land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the expansion of the airport in Kolhapur city. ¨Some 10 hectares of land needed to be handed over to the AAI and we are getting land at some other location as compensation. We are ready for it and it is just a matter of time to get a proposal from the AAI,¨ Javadekar said.
The State Revenue Department has already shown an alternative 10 hectares of land at Shahuwadi to the forest department and the latter was ready to acquire it. But, the AAI has not yet made any official communication.
