The Union government has cleared Rs 822-crore for roads projects in three Maoist-affected districts of West Bengal. The sanction for 447 road projects for the districts of Paschim Mednipur, Bankura and Purulia comes soon after the Union government approved Rs 523-crore road projects for the state.
The Centre has asked the West Bengal government to ensure full transparency in implementation of the projects, according to the sanction letter issued by the rural development ministry.
The Centre said access to central funds will depend on the state meeting conditions such as ensuring that at least 80 per cent of the road works sanctioned last year have been cleared, providing certified accounts and submitting detailed project reports.
