For the 4,000 MW ultra mega power project (UMPP) at Bhedabahal in Orissa, nine power developers have submitted their initial bids (request for qualification or RFQ).

The companies competing for the Rs 24,000-crore project are: Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL), Tata Power, NTPC, Adani Power, JSW, Sterlite Inventure, CLP India, Larsen & Toubro and NHPC.

According to the Power Finance Corporation (PFC), the nodal body holding the auction, in the pre-qualification bid, the level of response is good. Serious players have come forward, PFC added.

The bids placed for the Rs 24,000-crore power project would be scrutinized and those who meet the parameters would be asked to submit the request for proposal (RFP) or the offer for tariff. The project is likely to be awarded by the end of the current financial year. Power developers generating electricity at the cheapest rate would emerge as the winner.
