Marine service provider Ocean Sparkle (OSL) generates 20 percent of its revenue through dredging operation and another 45-50 percent of income from operations at minor ports.

The Hyderabad-based firm provides services like harbour towage, pilotage of various kinds of vessels including specialised tonnage like LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers, management of ship traffic and communications, mooring services and oil spill response.

The firm also provides tug boat operations and third-party maintenance services at the major ports complete the pie.

Port owners such as Reliance Port and Terminals for Jamnagar and Petronet LNG have long term contracts with the firm for specialised functions.

In order to fund its expansion plan, OSL secured capital from private equity investors in the beginning. Over the years, these investors exited via secondary sales to newer firms.

Four private equity investors -India Equity Partners, Kaup Capital of Singapore, IFC and Standard Chartered- together hold 45 percent in the company today:
