The Otis Worldwide Corp.’s India subsidiary will apply its engineering expertise to deliver future-ready vertical transport solutions tailored for high-speed rail infrastructure.
Otis India has secured a series of orders from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) to supply a total of 55 elevators and escalators across six stations and one depot on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor.
Spanning 508 km, the MAHSR corridor will use Japan’s Shinkansen technology to reduce travel time between the two cities to just over two hours. Trains on the route will reach speeds of up to 320 km/hr, cutting journey time by nearly four hours and transforming intercity mobility.
Otis India, a subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corp.—the global leader in elevator and escalator manufacturing, installation, and service—will apply its engineering expertise to deliver future-ready vertical transport solutions tailored for high-speed rail infrastructure.
Sebi Joseph, President, Otis India, said, “We are honoured to be playing a key role in high-speed rail and the advancement of India’s transportation systems. With Otis innovation, modern and reliable products, and our relentless commitment to passenger safety, we aim to make every step of the passenger’s journey safe, smooth and seamless.”
The Gen2 Stream elevator systems to be deployed will feature machine room-less and gearless technology, powered by Otis ReGen regenerative drives that convert excess energy into electricity. The Otis 520 NPE escalators are designed for bi-directional travel and built for endurance, safety, and operational efficiency, ideal for high-footfall transport hubs.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor is the first in a proposed national high-speed rail network that will eventually connect more cities and regions. Otis India’s involvement signals the growing role of advanced vertical mobility systems in shaping next-generation transport infrastructure.
