Petronet to rope in contractors for LNG terminal project

In order to set up gas storage facilities, re-gasification plant and marine facilities for its proposed 5 million ton LNG terminal in Gangavaram, Petronet LNG will rope in contractors.

In order to select contractors, the company invited bids from eligible entities.

Some months ago, the board of the firm approved the plan to set up the LNG terminal, which would be the first one of its kind on the east coast.

For qualification of bidders for lump-sum EPC contracts, the firm plans to undertake international competitive bidding (ICB) process. The terminal will ultimately have a capacity of 10 million ton per annum with initial installed capacity of 5 million ton.

Last year, Gangavaram Port and Petronet LNG signed a term sheet for the project, when it also called for bids for leasing an FSRU (Floating Storage & re-gasification Unit) for 3-5 years to cover the period till the terminal is completed in 2016.

This would be the third LNG terminal for the firm as it already has a 10 million ton per annum terminal at Dahej in Gujarat and it is working on a 5 million terminal at Kochi in Kerala. The firm plans to expand capacity of its Dahej terminal to 15 million by 2016.
