Power demand in India is expected to grow at just 6.2 per cent over the next five years amid the economic slowdown, a study by rating agency Crisil has said. Hence, power projects, for which producers had bid aggressively, are likely to remain under pressure, it added. Crisil said that though India is likely to add just 68,000 MW during the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) instead of the targeted 90,000 MW, the capacity addition will still be faster than the growth in electricity demand.
