Indian Railways posted 7.75 per cent rise in freight revenue in the first five months of 2013-14 compared to last year. The Railways generated Rs 36,465.59 crore in freight revenue between 1 April and 31 August compared with Rs 33,841.63 crore in the same period last year. The increase in revenue comes on the back of a 5 per cent jump in freight traffic. The Railways carried 426.14 million tonne of freight traffic during April-August compared with 405.42 million tonne in the year-ago period.
