The additional responsibility is expected to strengthen collaboration between two of the Rail Ministry’s leading infrastructure PSUs and speed up the development of India’s transport and connectivity projects.
Saleem Ahmad, Chairman and Managing Director of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), has assumed additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director of IRCON International Ltd (IRCON), a Navratna public sector enterprise specialising in rail infrastructure construction, on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Railways has assigned him this responsibility for one year from July 1, 2026, or until a regular incumbent is appointed, or until further orders, whichever comes first. A statement from IRCON noted that his additional role is expected to strengthen collaboration between two of the ministry’s premier infrastructure PSUs and accelerate the development of India’s transport and connectivity projects.
Upon taking charge at IRCON’s corporate headquarters in New Delhi, Ahmad held preliminary discussions with the board of directors on the company’s business position, strategic priorities, and future growth trajectory. He later chaired a review meeting with senior personnel across departments and project verticals, followed by a dedicated session with the finance team. During these interactions, Ahmad was briefed on IRCON’s achievements, capabilities, and ongoing projects.
He emphasised disciplined execution, professionalism, and result-oriented functioning, noting that infrastructure projects demand timely decisions, efficient implementation, and close coordination across teams. He urged realistic target setting, continuous monitoring, and strict adherence to schedules, while encouraging officers to take bold and timely decisions in the organisation’s interest.
Ahmad stressed that punctuality must extend beyond office hours to include project completion, decision-making, and corrective action. He reiterated that quality and safety are non-negotiable, encouraging regular site visits, close supervision, and timely intervention. He also highlighted the importance of careful contractor selection, effective monitoring, and timely payments to ensure smooth execution.
He underlined the need for close engagement with stakeholders, including the Ministry of Railways, clients, and project partners, while maintaining financial prudence and operational efficiency expected from a listed public sector enterprise. Calling upon employees to work with dedication and discipline, Ahmad urged them to sustain growth momentum and contribute to the national vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
