South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) is setting up Kusmunda Coal Washery with 10 MTPA capacity in Korba district. SECL will offer this facility to operators on a Build-Operate-Maintain (BOM) basis. According to company officials, SECL plans total coal production of 250 million tonnes (MT) from its underground and open cast mines by 2019-20.
The company had recorded provisional production of 12 MT against a target of 11.70 MT as of February 2016, according to a BSE filing by parent company Coal India Ltd. Coal India Ltd is looking at a production target of 1 billion tonnes of coal by 2020.
The Centre has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh for coal connectivity projects, to improve transportation of coal.
