Siemens wins equipment contract

Siemens AG, Germany, and Siemens India consortium were awarded a Rs 305 crore contract for power supply and overhead equipment by Chennai Metro Rail. Siemens won the Rs 14,000 crore metro project through international bidding process for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of complete po­wer supply system covering elevated and tunnel sections of the metro rail system. Three traction substations will be set up to step-down the voltage from 110 kV to 25 kV A/C single phase. The contract includes setting up of three aux­iliary gas insulated substations at Koyambedu, Alandur and Chennai Central, air-conditioning systems, tunnel ventilation systems, lighting and other utilities at the stations.
