For construction of roads along the China border, Indian government has identified as many as 73 roads as strategically important. Out of the 73 roads, 19 roads measuring 440.74 km are in Uttarakhand, Union Defence Minister A K Antony told the Lok Sabha on December 17.

8.5 GW gas-based plants remain idle
Some reports indicate that around 8,500 MW of gas-based power plants are lying idle in the country owing to non-availability of fuel. A high-powered ministerial panel rejected a proposal to cut natural gas supplies to urea plants and divert that fuel to power companies.
Govt may not give significant gas to power sector
An Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) may not give any significant natural gas to the fuel-starved power producing units in the country till domestic production rises in 2016-17. Over $21 billion power plants are stranded for want of fuel. The EGoM headed by Defence Minister AK Antony is to meet shortly to squeeze out some gas from current year output of 105 million standard cubic meters a day for the power plants.
Antony asks BRO to pace up roads along border areas
The Defence Minister AK Antony has asked the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to look at other public sector companies and even private companies to expedite road construction along the frontier with China. Roads needed by security forces along border with China have been delayed by five to seven years. The BRO, a body under the Ministry of Defence, is tasked with laying down roads in the Himalayas, especially those needed for strategic purposes.
BRO’s work on Tezpur-Balipara road is in progress
The Union Defence Minister AK Antony has said that the Tezpur to Balipara (20 Km) road is already double-laned and double laning of the stretch from Balipara to Tawang (317.52 Km) is under progress by the Border Roads Organisation's (BRO). The probable date of completion of the road Balipara-Charduwar-Tawang to National Highway Double Lane (NHDL) specifications is March 2016
Ranchi airport terminal is in need of approach road
In Jharkhand, the Rs 138-crore airport terminal building in Ranchi is ready and awaits its inauguration. Union Defence Minister AK Antony will take a final call on construction of a 1km approach road to the new world-class integrated terminal building of the Ranchi airport. Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials had earlier planned to inaugurate the building soon after Diwali.
