Despite a raft of policy facilitations, domestic airlines are flying into two major headwinds – crippling infrastructure constraints at major airports, and an uptick in fuel prices – which could mean growth in domestic air passenger traffic may have peaked out for the medium term.

SpiceJet phases out expats on rupee falling
By phasing out expat pilots, SpiceJet is planning to save Rs 90 crore per annum. Foreign pilots employed by Indian airlines are paid in dollors. Not jut, SpiceJet, the falling rupee has made airlines in India to act in an area where they have dragged their feet for years - phasing out expat pilots. BPCL lays pipeline to supply ATF
State-run oil marketing company (OMC) BPCL laid 33 km underground pipeline from its Kochi refinery to the local airport to ensure smooth supply of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) at an investment of Rs 41 crore. Earlier, aircrafts in the airport used to get jet fuel from the refinery by tanker trucks. The company set up the pipeline considering that transport of ATF by pipeline is safer than tanker lorry delivery

Jet fuel price increased by 3.8%
Jet fuel prices were on February 28 hiked by 3.8 per cent, the second increase in rates in as many months. Aviation Turbine Fuel, or ATF, price at T3 terminal in Delhi was hiked by Rs 2,519.83 per kilolitre (kl), or 3.8 per cent, to Rs 70,080.87 per kl from midnight tonight, according to Indian Oil Corp, the nation's largest fuel retailer.
