Coal India registered a healthy 6.5 per cent growth in coal production to clock 54.30 million tonnes (MT) in February this year compared to 50.98 MT achieved in the corresponding period last year.
Coal dispatch by CIL to power sector dips 13percent
In view of weak power demand, the dispatch of coal by Coal India (CIL) to the power sector declined by 12.7 per cent to 26.4 million tonnes (MT) in August this year.
Coal India production up 0.2% in April-September
Coal India Ltd (CIL) has reported that its coal production grew by only 0.2 per cent to 230.06 million tonnes (MT) in the April to September period as compared to 229.54 MT of coal produced in the first six months of the last fiscal.
Excess coal output worries government
As India plans to become completely self-sufficient in energy security in view of the changing circumstances, the government is worried about how to dispose the country's excess coal production, Union Minister for Power Piyush Goyal has said. He said that two years ago, when he had announced a target of one billion tonnes of coal production, Ćāit was an off-the-cuff remarkĆā to tackle coal shortages prevalent then.
Coal production up in 2014-15: Goyal
Coal production increased from 556.4 MnT in 2012-13 to 610.8 MnT during 2014-15, Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy, said.
