Mumbai, March 24th, 2015: Essar Power MP Limited, a subsidiary of Essar Power, one of IndiaÂ’s leading private sector power producer, today said that it has signed the Coal Mine Development and Production Agreement with the Government of India for the Tokisud North coal block in Jharkhand and has also completed all other formalities.

Abhijeet Group has been penalised by the Ministry of Coal for delay in coal production. The fine imposed is not much and it hurts the company's prestige more than the finances.
Singareni Collieries mull Rs 103 bn investment
In order to ramp-up output, open new mines and also set up a new power plant, Singareni Collieries Co plans to spend Rs 10,360 crore during 2012-17. According to some reports the company invested Rs 3,220 crore (of the total investment) in 2012-13.
Coal shortage in 12th Plan
India may face coal shortage of 185 mn t during the 12th five-year plan as power capacity addition outpaces growth in coal production.
It is learnt that coal production by the terminal year of the 12th Plan may touch 795 mn t. During the 11th Plan, coal production was increased by 110 mn t and there was a gap of 140 mn t.
