New mining policy in Goa
Goa Government has said it will adopt a transparent mechanism to award mining leases in future and was studying the SC order lifting ban on iron ore extraction before taking a decision on vacating current mine operators whose fate hangs in balance.
Relief package
The Goa Government is holding discussions with banks to work out a relief package for the borrowers affected by mining ban. Goa Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo, delivering his customary address at the state assembly on the first day of the five-day budget session, said the banking sector, including cooperative banks, is facing tremendous stress on account of the advances made to various segments of the mining industry turning into non-performing assets.
Strict norms for mobile towers
The Goa government has proposed strict guidelines for the setting up of site-specific mobile base station towers (MBSTs) in the state in response to an increase in use of cellphones and wireless communication and fears over radiation to public health.
Goa to earn Rs 1,500-cr by selling extracted iron ore
From the e-auctioning of extracted iron ore, the Goa government is expecting to earn a revenue of Rs 1,500 crore. The iron ore is lying at various jetties and mining sites in the state as the mining ban in imposed by the Supreme Court.
Goa mining policy to promote tourism
The Goa government through its mineral policy 2013, envisages promotion of tourism in the mining belt of the state and create employment opportunities for people of the particular area. The policy states that mining related to tourism would be promoted to create awareness, educate the masses and provide employment opportunities to local people.
Rs 115 cr Nabard loan to Goa for Chapora bridge
Under its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned a loan of 115 crore to the Goa government for construction of one rural bridge.
Goa to take up road repairs from Sept 15
The Goa government will take up road repairs from September 15. Roads battered by rains will be taken up for repairs and those road contracts with three-year warranty period will be repaired by the contractors concerned at their cost. The State Public Works Department (PWD) will undertake temporary repairs as soon as the rains recedes.
Goa policy for more investment in aviation
The investment policy of the Goa government plans to reap maximum benefits from the proposed greenfield airport at Mopa plateau, 40 km from Panaji, the State's capital. A draft investment policy floated by a specially appointed task force appointed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar advocates attracting investment in aviation and aerospace sectors. Goa govt asks AAI to renew permits of Dabolim airport
The Goa government has asked the Dabolim airport, managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in the state, to new permission from the it (Goa State government). The State government stated that the airport is running its terminal without valid consent to operate under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1974 and Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act 1981 since November 2011.
