Govt plans project to connect Char Dham
The highways ministry is planning to connect Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarakhand with 889 km of disaster-proof two-lane roads at a cost of Rs 12,000 cr. Detailed project reports are reportedly in the final stages and the ministry is likely to invite bids for road stretches in October.
Nitin Gadkari launches Green Highways Policy
Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari has launched the Green Highways (Plantation, Transplantation, Beautification & Maintenance) Policy, 2015. The aim of the policy is to promote greening of highway corridors with participation of the community, farmers, private sector, NGOs, and government institutions.
Logistics corridor likely in few years
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is starting a massive exercise to diagnose the deficiencies in the infrastructure and system. It will come up with solutions for seamless movement of big carriers or trailers on the highways that connect six-seven major ports such as JNPT in Mumbai, Kandla and Haldia, besides key manufacturing hubs.

The union ministry of road transport and highways is considering the creation of a separate transport department, Secretary Vijay Chhibber said.
Rs.400 cr project for waterways; 7 major ports on anvil
To boost waterways, the government has prepared a Rs 400 crore project under which the centre will provide subsidy of 50 per cent to states to build floating jetties, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said.
