Telecom bodies sought essential services status
Industry bodies representing mobile service providers and tower companies want an ‘essential services’ status to be given to telecom infrastructure companies.The associations have demanded that the telecom sector be treated at par with other infrastructure providers such as energy and power and be given tax benefits for a 20 year period.
Tower providers plan to use green power
The Tower and Infrastructure Providers’ Association is plaÂnning to float a request for proposal (RFP) inviting NGOs and private green power companies to generate and supply off-grid power to telecom towers in the country. The association proÂÂÂposes the ‘RESCO off-grid disÂÂtribution model’ where renewable energy companies can set up renewable energy-based power plants near the telecom towers and sell power to the telecom company at a pre-determined cost.
