In Punjab's Ludhiana, the move to upgrade Sahnewal airport has hit the first road block with some of the villagers filing objections to the acquisition of their land. AAI to finalise sites of low-cost airports in Punjab
Within a fortnight of the Union government announcing three low-cost airports in Punjab, a high-powered committee of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has arrived in the state to test the feasibility of the airports. On July 11, the four-member team led by Joint General Manager N Makhija arrived to check the economic and technical feasibility of constructing low-cost domestic airports in Patiala, Ferozepur, Jalandhar and Ludhiana.
Punjab govt allots Rs 25 bn for various projects
In order to implement various projects in the sewerage, water supply, road, housing and other sectors in Ludhiana, Punjab government allocated Rs 2,499.74 crore. The amount includes Rs 1,352.20-crore to upgrade road infrastructure, including 8 laning of Ferozepur Road from Sidhwan Canal to MC limit, among others. Modernisation of Rlys needs ` 5.6 trillion
Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said that an investment of Rs 5.6 lakh crore would be required to modernize Indian Railways. He also said that some major industries, mine and port merchants are coming forward for the expansion of railway tracks to intensify their services.

Board clears port project in Ludhiana
At a recent meeting of the Project Approval Board of Punjab government cleared the proposal to set up a dry port near Kila Raipur in Ludhiana.The board, which is headed by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, cleared the project as the proposed port may boost industrialisation, trade and commercial activity in Punjab.
