To improve road connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh, the Union government has approved a network of roads and bridges at a cost of Rs 819 crore. The Union Rural Development Ministry's decision in this regard comes just ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Beijing and it emphasises the strategic importance of the bordering state over parts of which China lays claim.

India will go for gas, oil deal with Russia
India will not be wrapping the deal on Koodankulam 3 and 4 Energy pact with Russia.
Instead the country will push for an energy pact with Russia that could see a parallel twin gas and oil pipeline bringing energy overland into India. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in Moscow on a two-day visit for the 14th India-Russian annual summit at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin on October 20.
PM tells Moily to cut oil imports by $25 bn
The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked the Union Oil Minister Marpadi Veerappa Moily to save $25 billion on oil imports in the current fiscal year, so that it can help the country narrow its current account deficit (CAD).Moily said and added that oil is one of the components which is responsible for CAD.
Moily says India to save $8.5 bn via Iran oil imports
By increasing crude oil imports from Iran, India plans to save over $ 8.5 billion in foreign exchange this fiscal, said the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Marpadi Veerappa Moily. Moily told this to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in a written communication on August 30. India, which paid about $144.29 billion last fiscal for importing oil, is renewing imports from Iran and, unlike imports from other countries, it pays Iran in rupees.
100 low-cost airports in 2 years
To increase air connectivity to tier-II and tier-III cities in the country, the Union Government has decided to set up 50 new low-cost airports this year and 50 next year. The government is striving to achieve this within the deadline set up by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The Union Oil Minister Marpadi Veerappa Moily on August 27 said that to reduce the current account deficit (CAD), the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has sought $25 billion cut in oil import bill. India is renewing imports of the fuel from Iran as unlike imports from other countries. It pays the Persian Gulf nation in rupees. India paid about $170 billion last fiscal for importing oil.
Govt clears Rs 1 lakh cr infra projects
The Union government on August 26 cleared Rs 1 lakh crore infrastructure projects which include projects under shipping and ports sector. The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh headed Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) has also asked the departments concerned to remove the bottlenecks for the projects within a month.
India, China to tie-up to cooperate in road sector
For cooperating in their road and transport sector, India and China are set to sign an agreement when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits Beijing in next October. Transport ministries of both countries have approved the details of the proposed agreement. Last year, India had reached out to Chinese infrastructure companies to invest in the road sector.
