India, China to share practices in road construction

When Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits China in October next, India and China are set to sign an agreement for cooperation in the road and transport sector. The areas of cooperation have been identified and agreed by both the sides and these include sharing the best practices in road building technology and road safety related issues. China has made huge progress in building world class highways and over 60,000 km of expressways.

Whereas India has a plan to build around 18,000 km of expressways. At present, there are about six road projects in India which have been built with Chinese cooperation.

China has also made its mark in fast implementation of infrastructure projects particularly road and rail. Once India has the technology sharing with China, it would help to push the pace of construction. China has also improved its record in taming number of road deaths in the past 6-7 years. The between the two neighbouring countries will open a new window of opportunity for both the countries, say analysts.
