Centre plans bailout for highway companies
As several of road developers are are under stress and are finding it tough to raise debt and equity to finance projects the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is seeking to push a relief package for road developers. The agency is looking at allowing a staggered payment which will allow developers to pay a lower upfront premium this year and instead postpone a part of the amount during the latter part of the contract period to make the projects viable.
NHAI to have final say on road alignment in Kerala
The Kerala government will no longer push for any comprehensive changes in the alignments fixed by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for widening of highways in Kerala. Emphasising its stand, the State government has decided to set up a committee chaired by the chief secretary for rectifying mistakes, if any, at places where there is serious problems and for protecting the places of worship from demolition.
Road infra cos face problems as banks are wary of lending
Hyderabad-based IVRCL won a contract from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on March 31 last year, to develop a 121-km stretch of road between Rajahmundry and Gundugolanu in Andhra Pradesh. Officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Madurai division carried out an encroachment eviction drive at two places along the Madurai - Theni national highway (NH) on February 19. More than 150 temporary encroachments in front of the shops between Kalavasal Signal and Mudakkusalai were removed with the help of an earth moving vehicle.

NHAI’s plea to PMO to help finance delayed road projects
For delayed road projects, a financial revival package from the government has been sought by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Proposing the financial solution, NHAI has sought urgent intervention of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on a host of matters related to highway projects.
