The already delayed Navi Mumbai airport project is facing further delays because of land acquisition problems. For the past one year, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco), the projectÂ’s nodal agency, has been struggling to resolve the compensation issue related to the 291 hectares of private land that has to be acquired from farmers in 18 villages.

Compensation hurdles hamper NM airport project
For the much delayed Navi Mumbai airport project, the Maharashtra government has decided to review the compensation to be paid to acquire the remaining land. Maharashtra Chief Minister PrithvirajChavan said that the project implementing agency Cidco has been asked to suggest whether the package, promised to land owners from nearby areas, in other projects can also be applied in this case.
